About LCVEF
Founded in 2006, the Lancaster County Virginia Education Foundation (LCVEF) is a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to enriching student learning by supplementing the local public school budget with private funding. The organization was established by five community members James Alga, Jill Worth, Barbara Lundberg, Joe Curry, and Margaret Socey, who dedicated time to establish the mission and by-laws. Margaret Socey (president), Ed Pittman (vice president), Jean Nelson (secretary), James Alga (treasurer), and Joe Curry, served as the founding board of directors.
The students of Lancaster County Public Schools represent the future of our community. No matter which career paths they choose—law, medicine, nursing, business ownership, farming, the watermen trades, education, skilled technical work, or public service—they will be more successful if they are well-prepared academically. Their success benefits Lancaster County through increased tax contributions, charitable giving, and active community engagement. Investing in strong public education is one of the most meaningful ways we can shape a thriving future for our county.
Since its inception, LCVEF has contributed more than $3,000,000 to Lancaster County Public Schools. Funded initiatives include the Early College Academy, field trips, robotics programs, mentoring, technology improvements, teacher licensure support, and numerous teacher mini-grants, among others.
